The TIRED Movement

We need ongoing support for the TIRED Movement to exist.
We need to improve diversity, equality, equity and representation within dance education and the wider dance industry, at all levels.
The TIRED Movement (Trying to Improve Racial Equality in Dance) was founded in 2020 as a not-for-profit organisation to raise awareness about racial injustice within the industry and the importance of representation in dance education. The movement has gained great momentum and support from the dance community and has made great strides towards implementing change across all dance sectors.
TIRED aims to remove the fear of discussing racism amongst peers and colleagues and to ensure that good practices within the dance industry are adhered to. It is an opportunity to share best practice and work as a collective to improve racial equality and representation in the dance industry. We want to develop a continuum of conversation between academic schools, the private dance sector, vocational training and through into the industry. To promote the importance of appropriate teaching methods and language, along with the understanding of what it means to not only be diverse, but inclusive. The TIRED Movement encourages teachers of the next generation to pay respect to the pioneers and celebrate the origins of dance that were influenced by black culture.
Our mission is to unite the dance community with a seamless line of communication that both educates and motivates teachers of our future generation. Creating a movement that is inclusive, informative and provides a safe space for honest conversations along with inciting regular observations of the appropriate delivery of inclusive dance education.
For decades, global majority dancers across the world continue to experience stereotyping, tokenism, racism, issues of cultural appropriation, and are consistently gaslighted when raising concerns of discrimination. Learning the correct history of dance, understanding the important influence black culture has had on the popular dance style we see today and wearing the correct dancewear that compliments your skin, are all part of the many things that need addressing.
TIRED co-founder Stacey Green has worked tirelessly to forge partnerships with the leading Performing Arts Colleges and industry professionals to develop a sustainable framework that will be the first of its kind to regulate representation in vocational training. We are so proud to be working with some of the leading colleges in the UK, who will collaborate together for the first time in history to achieve our outcomes.
The TIRED Movement urges anyone that cares about the future of dance education and the wellbeing of the next generation to support our quest to drive the change and ensure that the landscape of dance education is fully inclusive and equitable!
